Anti-obesity research has been on the fast track to find naturals means of controlling weight and limiting fat accumulation. Research has shown the three most effective fat-fighting teas are green, oolong and yerba mate.^1-3 Below, is a collection of studies illustrating the fat fighting prowess of the three teas.

In one ground breaking study, examining yerba mate as a weight loss formula, the subjects who consumed the yerba mate caps lost an average of 10lbs in 45 days while the placebo group did not loose any weight.¹ Neither group showed adverse effects. The action by which yerba mate encouraged weight loss appears to be its effects in slowing gastric emptying, thus increasing the feeling of "fullness" from less food.¹

The effects of green tea were recently examined in a 12 week study with 200 men and women who where randomly divided into two groups. The study was designed to examine and identify the active component of green tea which encourages fat loss. The main constituents of green tea include a group of polyphenolic compounds known as catechins. There are many catechins in different teas, including catechin gallate (CG), gallocatechin (GC), gallocatechin gallate (GCG), epicatechin (EC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), epigallocatechin (EGC), and the popular epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

In this study, one group was given a control beverage of caffeine and a low concentration of catechins and the other group was given a beverage consisting of caffeine and high-catechins. The high-catechin group had a reduction in waist circumference and lost twice as much fat as the lower catechin group while following the same diet and workout program.² As a side benefit with the high-catechin group, LDL cholesterol was lowered, and individuals with mild hypertension had a reduction in blood pressure.² Each 2 cap dose of Tea-3 includes the same high-level of catechins used in this study.

Other human studies have verified that catechin consumption from tea can significantly decrease waist circumference and fat mass.^4-5 Its also been established that the caffeine content is only partly responsible for these fat loss effects, since its been shown that the fat burning effects are most significant when caffeine is consumed together with the above mentioned catechins.

In fact, one study with 12 men, demonstrated that consuming 270mg/caffeine alone will increase energy expenditure the same as consuming 270mg/caffeine from oolong tea (with catechins). However, the group which consumed the oolong tea burned twice as much fat as the caffeine only group.⁶ These effects can be explained by the synergistic action from the polymerized polyphenol content in oolong tea.³

Tea's can also benefit overall health. Naturally, tea's are loaded with a healthy balance of vitamins, trace minerals, amino acids and antioxidants that can help fight the aging process.⁷ EGCG has recently been shown to prevent damage to the retina and preserve healthy vision.⁹ While other catechins have been effective in lowering blood cholesterol.¹⁰ Yerba Mate has even been suggested as a treatment for Parkinson's disease.¹¹

Directions:

As a dietary supplement take 1 to 2 caps in the morning and 1 to 2 caps mid-afternoon. Do not exceed 4 caps in one day.
