Although I didn't really care for a lot of the flavors, its OK because you don't have to choke down the rest of a tub after you have tried it once. Also you may find flavors that you surprisingly like, but never would have risked ordering (...banana cream). -For me ON gets their chocolate flavors right, some a little too sweet (rocky road, caramel toffee) but overall good taste with my favorite being extreme milk chocolate. -Didn't like their vanilla based flavors, seemed a little 'off'...thought orange cream was horrible, no flavor tastes better mixed with orange juice. -I don't like the ON strawberry flavoring, other reviewer really did so i guess to each his own. Root beer was better than expected. tropical punch (only one i mixed with water) worse than expected. -Overall i've found I just like Muscle Milk better in general but I will be ordering ON extreme milk chocolate in the future. review By: VasuReview posted on: Mon May 26 02:39:58 -0400 2008 I'm pleased to report that unlike a few years ago, the latest formulation of ON's Whey no longer gives me stomach aches! All shakes below were mixed with 7oz water and 1oz of heavy cream. Flavors I didn't care for: Banana Cream (too much like taffy candy), Caramel Toffee Fudge (too much diacetyl taste like fake popcorn butter), Cookies and Cream (not pure evil like it used to be, but still gross), French Vanilla (too sweet), Orange Cream (good as a juice flavor), Rocky Road (not bad, but not distinctive enough to warrant any number pounds), Root Beer Float (not bad, but would only want it once or twice a year for novelty), Tropical Punch (tastes like bubblegum flavor not punch flavor) and Vanilla Cream (too fake, thin, weak, bleh). Flavors I think Dymatize does better: Chocolate Mint, Coffee/Mocha, and Orange Cream. Flavors I thought were good: Strawberry Banana, Double Rich Chocolate, Extreme Chocolate Milk (my fav of the 2 chocolates) And now 2 flavors that were so good, they deserve a few more words.. 1) Chocolate Malt - If you like Rich Chocolate Ovaltine, then you'll love this flavor! This is one of the few protein powders out there that I'd order in a 5 pounder and that I wish they offered in a 10 pounder. When I was a kid, I used to drink Ovaltine for breakfast every morning, and this reminds me of that exactly. 2) Delicious Strawberry - Strawberry shakes are my favorite flavor, so when I started drinking protein shakes, I looked at Strawberry flavors, but all the ones I tried were gross so I gave up. Then, earlier this year, I heard Dymatize's Berry flavor was a strawberry flavor, and I loved it and have been drinking it since then. Dymatize's tastes like strawberry Nesquik. ON's Strawberry is much more natural tasting and subtle. It definitely doesn't have a strong strawberry whallop, but it tastes like someone made a real milkshake using real strawberries. I would say that ON's Strawberry is tied with Dymatize's as the best Strawberry whey protein powder out there .. and I've tried about 8 different brands. While each flavor wasn't a winner with me, there were a few really good ones, and two that I'll definitely be adding to my protein powder cupboard. If it wasn't for this sampler pack, I probably wouldn't have ever tried ON again (after stomach aches from the older formulation and lackluster flavoring). I'm really glad I didn't have to gamble with at least 2 pounds of any 1 flavor, and now I know exactly which flavors I'll be buying in the future. |
