Phenibut (beta-phenyl- gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a derivative of the neurotransmitter GABA that crosses the blood-brain barrier [1]. It was developed in Russia, and there it has been used clinically since the 1960's for a range of purposes. Phenibut has both nootropic and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties.


Structurally, phenibut is similar to GABA, baclofen (p-Cl-phenibut), and beta-phenylethylamine (PEA). GABA is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. The addition of the phenyl ring to GABA allows the compound to more easily cross the blood-brain barrier, but also changes its activity profile [1-2]. Baclofen is a drug commonly used in studies on GABA(B) receptors, and also clinically used to treat severe spasticity of cerebral origin [3]. PEA is a naturally occuring biogenic amine which is similar in structure to amphetamine, and like amphetamine, it is a stimulant that causes the release of dopamine, and also promotes anxiety in high enough amounts.

I have tried both the primaforce and this kind is much better. the prima force powder just made me feel tired and sleep but this kind give a feeling of well being and also sleep if you want it.

this stuff is the best for relaxing feelings, start with 500mgs. though and then work your way up, and set aside at least 8-10 hours to sleep. you will feel relaxed, focused, and strong sense of well being. it should not make you tired right away but when you get into larger doses watch out, about 2 or 3 hours after dosing......you're bed is going to look awful nice (or someone else's bed).

This is a follow up to my October 2009 comment. I have to hand it to nutraplanet...the people spoke and they listened. I have placed a couple orders just to verify but clearly the original Phenibut is BACK! They are no longer cutting phenibut with fillers such as Magnessium Stearate which turned it into a baby powder like consistnecy, altered the taste, and quite frankly severly diluted the effects. It is still finely ground but you can clearly see the crystals in the light, notice the extremely sour/tart taste that shrink your taste buds, and most importantly IT WORKS. Thank you Nutra Planet!

I take .5 each of this and GABA.I am so relaxed and calm with this combination that if an earthquake occurred i wouldn't care,I'd probably jump into bed and snuggle up zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I do wake up in the middle of the night for a wee wee lol and find myself still pretty much out of it hehe when I am making my way from the bedroom to the toilet and back again.Sometimes i go to the kitchen to have a milo and I am amazed at the journeyLOL Love this but take some GABA with it and you will be amazed:) BP

Ordered phenibut powder from 1Fast400 for past couple of years; was a great product up until just recently when they changed it. Also tried Primaforce and was disappointed. Just ordered NP and could tell the difference right away - half the dose is twice as good.
