L-Leucine is an essential amino acid, specifically classified as a "branched-chain amino acid" (BCAA). BCAAs, especially leucine, stimulate muscle protein synthesis and may be the major fuel involved in anabolic reactions. Because there is no polar atoms in the amino acid side chain of Leucine, this makes interactions with water in aqueous solution impossible. It has nothing to do with the quality, if anything it really points to purity. It shouldn't mix, and you should be suspicious if it does. Add some low carb drink mix unless you like the taste of super sour unsweetened drinks. Most anything that changes the ph of the water should work ok. Very tough to mix without blending though but it sounds like others have this problem. Casey is right...the reason this won't mix well in water is because water is a polar molecule and leucine is nonpolar and because like dissolves like they do not mix. Like many others have said, it is very hard to get it to mix, which is why I just keep the powder in a container, toss it in my mouth, swish it with water and swallow. Works well and doesn't ruin the taste of any other shake/drink! |
