NutraPlanet Spokesmodel, Amanda Adams, shares with us one her favorite post workout protein smoothies!
4 ingredients, 4 minutes to make
- 1 cup of Almond Milk or regular milk
- Half of a medium banana
- 4-5 strawberries
- 2 scoops of NLA for Her Vanilla Cupcake Whey Protein Powder
Blend ingredients in blender, and either throw a straw in the blender to enjoy (depending on how sore you are after your workout), or pour in a glass over ice.

- 1 cup of rolled oats
- 2 whole eggs
- 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, which will make the pancakes dark. (we used NLA for Her Chocolate Eclair)
- 1 ripe banana
- 1-2 tbs of Almond Milk (If needed. Thickness of batter may or may need it depending on the size of your banana and protein powder.)
- dash of cinnamon
- 2 tbs of natural peanut butter or almond butter
Mash banana in a medium sized bowl with fork. Mix in eggs. Blend rolled oats in food processor or blender (I used my Ninja). Pour into bowl with banana and eggs. Add protein powder and cinnamon. Mix until blended. Over medium-high heat, pour batter onto griddle. Flip once you start to see bubbles on the edges.
Layer with peanut butter or your favorite low sugar syrup!
Nutritional Facts will range depending on size of banana and protein powder.

Recipe makes 4-6 pancakes (depending on big you make each pancake)

Beef & Veggie Stir Fry by OhYeah! Athlete and Fitness Model Emina Hecimovic Casady
2lb thinly sliced beef (I used flat iron steak)
2 bell peppers thinly sliced
1/2 red onion thinly sliced
1 bunch of asparagus chopped into 1 inch pieces
salt & pepper to taste
1 tbsp olive oil
Pinch of red pepper flakes
1. Heat olive oil on medium, stir in veggies and cook until desired firmness. I like my veggies really soft so I sauteed mine for about 10 minutes. Place cooked veggies onto a plate or bowl and set aside. Place beef slices into hot pan and cook until no longer pink. Return veggies into pan and mix with beef. Season with salt & pepper and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Serve over a bed of cooked rice.
If you like your veggies firm, you can cook your beef first then just add the veggies to the pan once beef is no longer pink.
You can also use chicken breast slices or prawns instead of beef.

How and why did you get involved in the sport?
As a child athlete, I was no stranger to the fitness world. Involved in gymnastics, dance and cheerleading at a young age, I was attracted to the competitive nature and health aspect associated with such activities. Working out has always been a part of my life beginning with daily conditioning workouts as a gymnast. I took my love for fitness and became a gymnastics coach, personal trainer and bikini competitor.
What are your future goals in and out of the sport?
Always determined, I’m following my dreams to become a top fitness model, trainer and motivation to others by sharing my journey.
As far as my goals out of the sport, opening a healthy “fit” restaurant has always been a dream of mine. When most people hear the words “eating healthy,” they think of bland, boring, flavorless foods. The fact is, that eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring at all. I want to show my community that eating healthy can be fun, exciting and delicious. From healthy omelets, protein smoothies and muffins to decadent entrées, organic wines and deserts-My future restaurant will create a new meaning to clean eating.
What does your post workout nutrition and supplementation look like?
I always drink a protein shake post workout. It’s easy, convenient and counts as one of my six daily meals. Drinking a protein shake after my workout provides the nutrients and amino acids I need to start the recovery process. My favorite protein is MRI’s Pro-NOS. Do you have a bulk season? How does your meal plan change?
Bulk season certainly means something different for everyone . For some, it means anything goes, no exercising, and “I’m allowed to eat whatever I want” kind of attitude.
In my opinion, that’s not what bulking is about. For me bulking is about putting on muscle, building shape and making improvements. Basically, off season bulking is about bringing your diet up to a level which will allow your body to grow.
Obviously I will limit my “cheat meals” and Ben & Jerry’s Fro Yo leading up to a competition, but my diet doesn’t change much throughout the year. I’m a clean eater, enjoying my sweets, southern favorites and wine all in moderation.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
We all scream for ICECREAM Ben & Jerry’s Fro Yo Half Baked to be exact. I never totally eliminate things from my diet, and believe it’s important to enjoy certain foods in moderation. When I’m not training for a competition, I enjoy a “cheat meal” once a week.
What’s your favorite supplements to use and why?
I’m a pre workout lover. Stimulant free, endurance based, energy enhancers – I’ve tried them all. My favorite supplement is MRI’s Black Powder Ultra pre workout. It definitely gives me the energy and mental focus to push harder, lift heavier and maximize my workout.
What are your best tips for getting shredded abs?
I firmly believe 80 % of getting shredded abs comes from nutrition. My clients laugh when I tell them abs are made in the kitchen, but it’s true. Another one of my favorite sayings is “Junk IN=Junk OUT.” I’m sure most of you have heard of the 80/20 Rule when it comes to fitness. It’s simple, the key to achieving optimum fitness is 80% what you eat and 20% physical exercise.

What are your three favorite exercises for building muscle and why?
Lunges/Squats- Who doesn’t want to work their booty? I like to pair these two together because they are my “go-to” exercises when I’m traveling . Not only are they a great lower body exercise you can perform anywhere, but it helps increase hip flexor flexibility, core stability and better balance.
Deadlifts- Deadlift is the only exercise that stimulates both the lower and upper body, and works more muscles simultaneously than any other movement (seriosuly-EVEN SQUATS!) This exercise is essentials for building muscle mass.
Military Press- The standing military press is one of my favorite compound exercises. Many people think that standing barbell military presses are only good for shoulder development. I’m not saying your shoulders won’t be screaming, but you can perform this exercise in a way that is killer for your abs. Sometimes the best muscle building exercises are the ones that appear so simple.

When did you start competing and fitness modeling?
I started competing in the Spring of 2011 when doctors told me that I wasn’t able to continue running marathons due to a knee injury. I needed an outlet, and a way to still remain competitive, even if it was only with myself. I started rehab on my knee and it led me to really appreciate weight training. Through that experience I found myself in the best shape of my life and won my first show. Since then I have switched to the Figure division and won my pro title in 2013.
I love to compete, but the world of fitness modeling is my favorite aspect of this industry and where I will most likely focus my energy on this year.
What keeps you motivated?
I’m most motivated by how I feel each day after eating clean and working out. I have SO much energy now that I know how to properly fuel my body with what it needs! I’m also extremely motivated and humbled by other women who reach out to me for help. Being able to help inspire others is something that I take a lot of pride in.
With your awesome abs, please tell us you enjoy some cheat meals. What are your favorites?
Too many to possibly fit into this interview! Haha! I love Reese’s peanut butter cups, coconut ice cream, pizza, and I could easily out-eat any grown man in a cheeseburger eating contest. My friends make fun of me all the time for how much I can eat!
That’s the type of girl we could hang out with! What about cardio? What’s your favorite kind?
I do cardio about 3 days per week, typically a really fun circuit that I make up on the spot! I can’t stand being on a treadmill if I don’t have to…so I choose to run stairs, sprint on the track, jump rope, or do fast plyo work that really gets the heart pumping!
What are your three favorite exercises for building muscle and why?
Pull-ups, Squats, Deadlifts. There are many variations that you can do with these three exercises and they are SO incredibly important. I used to be very thin and walked around with a flat booty that I wasn’t proud of. When I committed to a lifting routine, I did lower body work twice per week—squats and deadlifts completely changed my physique!
Squats and Deadlifts are officially in everyone’s workout not after reading that! Now we have to know about your abs. What are the best tips for getting shredded abs?
EAT CLEAN. Unless you have crazy awesome genetics, you will NOT see great results (especially in the abdomen area) if you don’t put your diet as a first priority. This concept was very hard for me when I first started competing because I have a MAJOR sweet tooth! I loved sugar. However, I find a good balance between healthy eating and letting myself “cheat” every now and again because I don’t think it’s healthy to restrict yourself from EVERYTHING! I still go out with friends and have a glass of wine or pieces of chocolate here and there, but then I get right back in my routine of clean choices. The longer I practice this the easier it becomes.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
I think it’s important to start with the basics. Eliminate alcohol, access sugars, processed food, etc. Focus on going to the grocery store and leaving with mostly leafy vegetables, healthy fats, and lean proteins! Allow yourself a cheat meal once per week in order to stay sane. Whatever you do, don’t over exercise!! I’ve seen many women running on treadmills for 1-2 hours every day of the week and that is not how anyone should go about losing body fat and getting fit. Most importantly, be patient. Nothing great happens overnight, so stay consistent and keep plugging away at little goals in order to not get overwhelmed.
