Good profile, good value...but By: Matt

Review posted on: Thu Feb 19 12:41:48 -0500 2009

I bought 10Lbs when it went on special, 5Lbs Vanilla, 5Lbs Chocolate - First, I would like to say the profile on this is great, and the value is great as well. But the taste is horrible, both Chocolate and Vanilla, I stuck it out and I am nearly though both now, but I wont be buying Lipotrophic protein again. (And I meant to rate it a 2, but somehow it was registered as a 4?)

Blech! By: Jeff

Review posted on: Mon Apr 13 21:49:14 -0400 2009

This is the only nutrition product I have ever returned. I purchased this from another site because of the profile, but could not choke it down, no matter how hard I tried. When mixed as suggested, it was so thick and grainy that I couldn't physically swallow it. Even after doubling the water to bring it to shake consistency, and adding other things like cinnamon or other flavorings, I still couldn't stand drinking it. I returned it, sucking up $11 in shipping and chalking it up to experience. Please recognize that this is my opinion, and YMMV. I know that some like the taste, and you may as well, but I couldn't stand Lipotropic Protein. That said, I hear LG is reworking the flavoring system, and am willing to try again when they do.

Awful Taste! By: Brian

Review posted on: Sun Feb 22 21:09:42 -0500 2009

Like others have said, pretty good value and profile, but that can't compensate for the horrible taste of this stuff. The texture is coarse, and the taste is unexplainably bad, I have to drink it with an Xtend chaser! Beware before buying, I'm going to see if I can exchange mine.

Can't beat the price OR taste By: Daniel

Review posted on: Tue Feb 17 14:09:10 -0500 2009

Of course, if you buy it from Nutraplanet, you can't beat the price -- so that right there is a plus. Besides the pricing, the stuff tastes GREAT! It mixes so easy (I mix with both water and soy milk -- depends on my mood) in a shaker that you can just carry aroud with you. Great for recovery and building LEAN muscle! I'm on my 3rd 5lb tub and don't plan on stopping any time soon!

Nice Job Legal Gear By: Clay

Here's my review on the vanilla. The very first sip was kinda iffy..not really sure if I would like it. But the texture is awesome. Very thick and creamy with skim milk. And the texture alone calls for more tasting. The taste is very curious. Vanilla is definitley there, but there is something else. The second shake I figured it out. Buttery. A definite buttery with vanilla taste. Now if you try the first sip and you don't think you'll like it. Try it again, I promise it will grow on you. My third night using it and I absolutely love it. And with this profile at this price, it can't be beat. 0 sats, 0 cholesterol. It will be my protein supplement from now on. Nice job Legal Gear.

Good Value for Money By: Joe

I tried the chocolate a few months back and it was okay tasting but I've read that the vanilla is supposed to be killer. Profile is definitely excellent for the price. Will definitely have to try the vanilla in the future.

A truly underrated protein! By: Matthew

Review posted on: Thu Oct 21 16:24:55 -0400 2010

OK I actually have chocolate peanut butter of the newer version and it is leaps and bounds better than the original that I thought was very rough. Actually, the CPB is my new favorite of that flavor and a perfect everyday protein that I use at any occasion. This has a great blend of proteins and fills you up enough to use it as a meal replacement or before bed. I don't get hungry with Lipo like I do when I have a whey shake and I have no digestion issues with it either. Also, the price to serving ratio is really top notch when it comes to a high quality blend. I can fork over another $5-10 for something else but why, this does the job and it can be used for more than just shakes. Oh yeah, I use it in cooking and it is SO MUCH better than whey. There are some great recipes posted on AM that everyone should try. Don't pass up the chance to get on this, 25 grams of a high quality blend per scoop!!!!

Great Protein Powder Overall By: Rosie

Review posted on: Sun Oct 17 17:58:31 -0400 2010

Formula: 9/10. I like the formula (except for the 'thickener' of soybean oil and corn syrup solids). I have always used protein powders that include BCAA's; but Lipotropic Protein contains all the amino acids. It also has NO sodium; as well as high protein, very low carbohydrate (NO sugars) and very low fat content per serve. For my goals and needs, this formula is just about perfect. Smell: 7.5/10. Smell is fine; a bit like nuts and seeds. It grows on one after a while as well, so that you don't really notice it. Taste: 9/10. I had the Vanilla flavour. It tastes a little bit like hempseed oil, only not as strong. It left an aftertaste like that of sunflower seeds, which was actually rather pleasant. I honestly don't see why people have a problem with the taste; it's great just as it is. Mixibility: 10/10. I have protein powder with half a cup of oats (for breakfast), and in water (mid-morning and mid-afternoon). With breakfast I only use enough water to mix the powder and the oats together; there were never any clumps of powder at all, and it mixed well with the oats. When I had my protein shakes there was rarely any clumps there either. Texture: 9/10. Lipotropic Protein has quite a thick, 'grainy' texture. Especially if mixed with water; the texture was like that of the porridge that my mum used to make when I was little. This is actually a good thing when having as a protein shake, as it gives a feeling of having had MORE than just a shake, and leaves a 'fuller' feeling. Increasing Muscle Mass: N/A. I did not gain any muscle mass over the time that I used Lipotropic Protein. However, training was NOT targeted at muscle mass gains; and a week after I started using it I broke my left scaphoid and was unable to do any resistance training at all. Fat Loss: N/A. Despite NO resistance training during almost the entire period of using Lipotropic Protein, my body composition remained within 9.7% BF to 10% BF (regardless of diet being at ~2800-4000 cal/day). Overall: 9/10. Lipotropic Protein is a great protein powder overall. This is one of the better protein powders that I have used, and if given the option is in my top 2 choices to use. Would I use it again? Yes. Not only is it a great protein powder overall, but it is very cost effective as well (at ~NZ$1 per serve). Would I recommend? Yes. Definitely.

To me, this was one of the best tasting, greatest protein powders I had ever tasted. I'm disappointed to see reviews indicating otherwise. I loved the smooth, creamy texture... For the sale price that nutra has, this is a great buy!!!

Great protein By: Ricardo

While the flavor is not the best it is still good...The chocalate has a nutty taste with a definable aftertaste that is noticeable but certainly bearable. While there are better tasting proteins out there this is definitely still a great protein. To the people saying this is the worst tasting protein they have ever tasted?? Stop being pu**ies hit the weights and drink up!

New flavor/blend is great! By: Tom

Review posted on: Mon Jul 19 15:58:58 -0400 2010

Very happy with the new flavor and blend. It doesn't have that disgusting old grit taste. It's very smooth and taste great. The price is perfect too. I love the new chocolate peanut butter flavor they came out with. I really hope more places pick this up. I don't see how only 1 place could be carrying it!

Nastayy! By: Seth

Review posted on: Mon Apr 19 16:36:03 -0400 2010

Really grainy and chalky. Absolutely will not blend. Baaad taste kinda like a rotten scoop of vanilla Ice Cream. Bad gas. Every bad aspect that a protein powder can have, aside from that it does help with a cutting cycle. I did see a easier fat loss with this stuff, but that was with cardio and cutters. Overall I would not recommend this product. Other lean isolates would probably work better and not be such a nasty experience to eat.

Coffee Flavored By: Michael

Review posted on: Sat Apr 17 02:59:57 -0400 2010

I ordered both. Terrible taste on the chocolate. Tastes like a mixed coffee or something, but not as good. The Vanilla has a similar aftertaste but is bearable. Price is good, but taste is not.

This is the most disgusting tasting protein powder I have ever tasted. Actually, it is one of the worst things I have ever tasted. I've tried to doctor it up to make it tolerable, but it is just too nasty. I'd be embarrassed to sell this product.
